As President of the International Institute of Public Engagement, Pattie draws upon more than 20 years of strategic communications and stakeholder engagement experience in public and social sectors.
Pattie has worked on projects in Canada, the US, Africa and south Asia. Pattie has most recently developed a strategy to support Metro Vancouver’s transportation and transit authority’s first online public consultation. She is currently engaged by BC Transit to design a public engagement strategy to inform its long-term transit future planning.
Pattie is CEO of Catapult Media offering strategic and communications planning services to organizations around the world. A frequent conference speaker, her experience in strategic planning, facilitation, professional coaching and communications planning richly inform her approach to public engagement.
Pattie is on the National Board of Directors of the Canadian Community of Dialogue and Deliberation. She is a member of the International Association of Public Participation and the world alliance for citizen participation, CIVICUS.
Her work is framed by the principles of Appreciative Inquiry and often focuses on the power of storytelling as a springboard for creating context for meaningful engagement. Pattie is founder of the storyworks project which aims to build the strategic narrative capacity of organizations to better engage their constituencies.
A frequent online columnist, she is currently doing research for her new book entitled “Capturing the Idea of Change: Why Stories Matter.”
Leo has a life-long commitment to engaging citizens in shaping their future, the future of their communities as vital to good governance and sustainable development. Leo has over 30 years working in the public and private sectors and has provided leadership and strategic advice on the development of public engagement to an array of nations and regions.
Leo is the Executive Director of the innovative arms-length provincial agency Voluntary Planning Nova Scotia. Here he has provided long-term policy and strategic advice to the provincial Cabinet based upon citizen-centered public consultations. Leo has been instrumental in shaping this internationally-renowned and unique public engagement model ensuring public input informs government decision-making.
He has provided strategic leadership on such projects as the Natural Resources Strategy for Nova Scotia, the Non-Resident Land Ownership and Heritage Strategy public consultation processes.
Leo has been recognized nationally and internationally for his ground-breaking public engagement work. He is a frequent conference speaker and guest lecturer, a Board Director of the International Association of Public Participation. He is a member of the US-based National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation and the Canadian Community for Dialogue and Deliberation.
Leo is fascinated by the power that public engagement can bring in addressing such important world issues as public safety and security in both developing and developed countries.
